01/04/17 - Ringing at Wentworth
At our Tuesday night practice, we were pleased to welcome a visiting ringer from New Zealand who came to have a ring with us while in the UK visiting relatives in Ecclesfield.
On Friday afternoon, a group of visiting ringers came for a ring who had spent the day travelling up from Essex. They were starting their ringing weekend on our bells at Ecclesfield. Then they were moving on to ring at St Leonard’s, Wortley then St John’s, Penistone.
The photo was taken as the bells were ringing, it was a lovely spring afternoon.

07/01/17 - Sheffield Branch AGM
A good afternoon of ringing today. 7 of our team were at the Sheffield Branch AGM. Afternoon ringing was on the 8 bells of St Marie’s RC Cathedral, Norfolk Row. Heavy bells and nice to ring, probably not appreciated by the local street entertainers who we found had moved on when we finished. Following the AGM and a superb ringers’ tea provided by the Cathedral ringers, evening ringing was at Sheffield Cathedral on the 34cwt 12. Always a pleasure to ring here and to just listen to as the sound cascades over the city centre.
01/01/17 - Ringing in The New Year
Continuing the tradition of ringing in the New Year 10 ringers were in the tower on New Year’s Eve. The old year was rung out from 11.40pm to 11.55pm with 6 and 8 bell methods. Exactly on the stroke of midnight our Tenor bell tolled 12 times. Then all 10 bells rang out to welcome in the New Year followed by the ringers celebrating with drinks and party poppers. To finish off a touch of Grandsire Triples was rung finishing at 00.20am.
We hope you enjoyed hearing our New Year ringing which is part of Ecclesfield’s New Year sound landscape along with the fireworks, celebrations and partying in the local pubs around the Church. Happy New Year all.
